Great post.. one person left out.. MIKE HUCKABEE, ordained Southern Baptist minister. Trumps, Ambassador to Israel. We are in confusing times… UNLESS you were lucky enough to never be deemed as a SCREWED UP CHRISTIAN. …. Not sure I was lucky, but my Baptist affiliation ( in MIke H days) preached against … the uo & coming SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION…My little ( but Vocal) INDEPENDENT MISSIONARY BAPTIST..in the heart of ARKANSAS…beat the drums AGAINST SBC. For that, I thank God… & NEVER VOTED FOR A HUCKABEE EVANGELICAL OR TRUMP .

All those great white fathers should be aware; you have to sleep sometime. A remedy is awaiting, if ms. white father so chooses. DD

The SB religion. What an abomination. And all the people who are members who hold political office. No wonder things are so messed up. I remember seeing a TV interview, Geraldo Rivera after Katrina, as I recall, with Jerry Falwell. Falwell kept saying that the people of New Orleans were being punished because they were sinful and that this was God's will. Geraldo kept calling him my friend my friend. Surely you don't believe that, but JF Insisted the people deserved the punishment. And of course, NOLA has a very large black population. So what does that say about JF? All those preachers. Godless, pretentious, amoral, liars etc. And Anita Bryant. Disgusting. She lost. People turned on her because of her hate. So much ugliness coming from these people because they are ugly.

But Bill Hicks said it best about taking shrooms and going out in the meadow and tripping out. Sometimes that's all you can do.

Overheard the same variety of 'want to believe it bigotry' in an elevator once. The Northridge Earthquake happened because "those people don't go to church..." two old white men were saying.

Mind you, an awful lot of tornadoes happen along The Bible Belt. Act of God?

Ahh, the Southern Baptist church. Don't go to the southern states, more times than I care to remember growing up and attending one.

Now you can see the "pastors" twerking and grifting on YT.

Once I started asking unChristian, definitely unBaptist questions - my chocolate butt was asked not to come back.

Ok, I figured in my anti-joining mind there had to be better answers in other religions, right? I was kicked out more churches than Skittles has flavors.

Now? Any organized religion that would have me is one I do not want to join.

Preaching hatred, using that old trope of "God's written word" to explain a Book that justifies atrocities, and accepting it. No thanks.

Nah, I'm good. Been to the cross roads and there's no devil down there. Hell or Heaven, you're living one or the other everyday.

Unfortunately, it's called Life. Ain't no savior coming besides the one in your mirror.😊

I was raised in a small loving Baptist church and none of this is any reflection of what I experienced. This is all wrong, not at all what Jesus taught.

The only thing I have to do with religion is the criticizing, so I can't speak to people feeling unheard and out of step with much more than, 'Duh,' It's dismissive, but religion is a tract, a track, a template a trap and a trope. There is My Way Or The Hell Way whether they are the resolute Kill 'Em All Fundamentalist sorts or the PACE Be With You Loving God Rabble.

There just isn't much wiggle room in religion because there wasn't meant to be.

I won't even say that religion would be OK if it was just Morality Tales because a lot of the "morality" is mighty whack. But offer me up to the horde and cut me into bits to prove your Love For God... Hundred Mile Pass.

No, I was indoctrinated Roman Catholic. I wanted out by eight. I burned a Rosary once when I was a teenager. Nothing happened. I bought another one when I was thirty. Still nothing happened. In the end, it was just plastic. Gave it to my Mom. It means something to her. And that's OK.

I was forced to attend my mom’s southern Baptist Church until college in the early 90s. Like other denominations, they don’t like to teach their not so holy history or be confronted when their beliefs don’t align with Jesus’ words. I never knew much about the church’s origins but it explains a lot of what I saw & experienced in the church, as well as its current influence. Thank you!

During these serious and troubled times,

people of all faiths should remember these four great religious truths:

1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God's Chosen People.

2. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

3. Protestants do not recognize the Pope

as the leader of the Christian church.

4. Baptists do not recognize each other in

the liquor store or at Hooters.

Rick Warren is wrong about the First Century church. It was led by the church in Jerusalem, founded by the disciples of Jesus, which observed kosher and Yom Kippur for 100 years. Which is to say that Jesus's disciples did not believe that he died for their sins. They were Jews, and as Jews they were expelled from Jerusalem in 135 CE. After that, the church in Rome took over leadership of Christianity, and declared Ebionite churches (like the former church in Jerusalem) to be heretics, and started compiling the Bible. It was the beginning of antisemitism in Christianity.
