"Hence ...and thence...taken and hung until dead! Dead! Dead! Wench! and therefore...may God have mercy upon your soul." Emaciated and dehydrated, I still bet he had a tickle, almost a yelp in his being, his soul just a leaping and a laughing...chained hands lifted to the Heavens... angels commissioned to take his "soul" to be standing on the left hand of God. He heard his name being called " Nat! The trains a boarding, come be seated in the bosom of Abraham". All that other fiendish activity which those white enslavers demonstrated only served to show how deeply flawed was their understanding of the Gospel of Freedom... they misunderstood the power of faith and belief in the same God of the little Hebrew children who called Moses to set the captives free! "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord". They may as well have been cutting up the carcass of a cow, the MAN was gone. Mr. Spivey it takes a lot to write about White American History, I appreciate it.

What a gut wrenching tale. Gives me nightmares. Fearsome and inhumane treatment. But Nat seemed to be fearless, even in death. His price of freedom.

Wow, I did not know. That’s absolutely insane behavior. Despicable and disgraceful.

The reaction was similar to how Israel has reacted to Oct. 7. It made the system of slavery far more oppressive throughout the South. I don't have time to go into it now. But they didn't just merely double down. It led to an increase in the number of fugitive slaves because of the increased repression.

Another sad chapter in American history which has been whitewashed! Thank you for sharing this!

Any violence to a slaver is entirely justified. Wipe the bastards off the face of the planet. There’s absolutely nothing that can be done to them they don’t richly deserve.
