The only thing scarier than Trump is all the people who continue to support him and enable him. I have friends who are Evangelical Magats who I continue to ask, “What’s the breaking point for you? What does Trump have to do for you to no longer support him?” It boggles my imagination that people so caring to others in their personal lives will tolerate years of his cruelty.

What boggles my mind is that no other journalist in that room spoke up. This happens again and again. There should have been a mass declaration that this is not acceptable, but everyone is so concerned about access that they bend the knee and discard their core values again and again.
This was a prime example of just how deep & prevalent misogyny is in this country. I used to believe that I would see a female president in my lifetime but after the past 2 pres. elections involving women, & seeing the disgusting misogynistic comments & behaviors of many in power or who have platforms that have faced no accountability, I no longer have that hope. Will those with bigoted attitudes here ever change?
Ten years in, I have come to believe that the journalists who reflect a stoicism in the face of the sad and pitiful and evil slights of the great tragedy for this country that is Donald Trump are NOT beng professionals. They are being cowards. It is accepted that the boardrooms are the places that are full of the craven lickspittles, the CNN execs and the ABC execs and the suits at the NYT. And the media stars and the Republican Senators--we just understand that they''re completely without backbone.
But the rank and file who just take this, who day after day listen to this man belch his poison, and then refuse to tell this piece of shit just how sick and disgusting he is, how much he has degraded the polity, how he has shat on 250 years of decorum, how do they look at themselves in the mirror each morning? I'll say this: Just look around substack. It ain't for job security.
The McCarthy era didn't REALLY end with "have you no shame?" but it was sure as f*** a start.
