Question: Is the new pope a good man who cherishes humanity regardless of their defects? If the answer is yes, who cares? Black, white, Latino, Asian, or Plutonian with pink and purple dotted skin, it shouldn't matter.
Oh no oh no! Whatever will maga do now? Imagine the horror! Imagine the trauma! Will they claim PTSD in finding out the American Pope has black blood in his veins? Actually it's red like everyone else's. Suffer the children to come unto me. Don't fall for their outbursts and pretense of hysteria.
Thank you for another thoughtful article, William. My family genealogist, Jari Honora, discovered Pope Leo XIV's ancestry and profoundly stated, "We are all just a few degrees (or less than a few degrees) removed from each other." The concept of white supremacy is the lie that depends on denying this fact. We have a multi-cultural, global spiritual leader in Pope Leo XIV, with African Ancestry (which we all have), known for his faith, intellect, compassion, humanity, and inclusivity, whose goodness will help triumph over ignorance and evil.
You always deliver.... great read... I went to Catholic school, have relatives across the color spectrum, My ancestors too get to be mulatto, black and white depending on.. I guess who fills out the form. American history includes or should include all of us whether explicit or not. His family left the south because of all the reasons people do... No one thought to ask. You are such a lover of the back story.
That's why we call it history. It is not something that should be erased because we don't like it, it should be embraced. I love that Pope Leo has some black blood in him. He is a universal soldier of God, and this just makes him more relatable to more people (and less to those who are shallow and bigoted, but they would have found another reason not to like him).
I'll bet that there are many so-called Christians of all denominations who are freaking out about the Pope's multi-ethnic heritage. Many of those same folks probably also freak out about the concept that Jesus was a person of color who preached that we should love and care for each other because God loves us all.
I would hope that someday, we will all say -- who cares? I did my genealogy test and found I'm 3 percent African. Maybe that's why when I was a kid I could run fast. But I stick by MLK's dream. It's good to know to better understand ourselves but it's not how we should be judged.
I agree with the new Pope's message that the greatest threat to humanity is AI. Unfortunately, someday, the test might be how much artificial components comprise the make-up of our body if things continue on the path we are being led.
I'm Black the same way that the NAACP lady a decade or so ago that got in trouble for pretending to be Black is Black, lol.
But in my heart, I'm Black from a solidarity standpoint, so I'm thrilled if the Pope represents the demographics of the U.S. in a way where the more you dig in, the more fascinating it all becomes.
Maybe the God the far-right Christo-nationalists have appropriated in their name is trying to teach them something.
Love this news! As if maga wasn’t already triggered, this should be the cherry 🍒 on top. He’s going to be an awesome leader!!

My My ….COLORS, the dawning of a NEW DAY

Good. No wonder he loves everyone, like a Pope should.

Very astute, William. I rely on your excellence to help me become a better person.
Doesn't matter, he's the Pope. Anyone who would use his Black heritage to discredit him is clearly not a Catholic much less a believer in Christ.

Let me be racist for a moment: Of course he's Black; he's compassionate ♡ so grateful he was chosen to continue some good in this world
I love that they new Pope has black ancestors. We're all related.
So what if he is? It does not make his integrity or his passion for the world's poor any less. Why does race matter? A good man is a good man. PERIOD.
Slavery is horrific and far too often forgotten in these times.
