Be a movie in him going to the college Fresher and them having "a date" lined up for him. And the Black Barber who "doesn't cut Negro hair" is INSANE. And STUPID. And My God, DO THEY REALLY WANT TO GO BACK TO THAT!? To Hell with them!

I'm not surprised his father had tears in his eyes. A Black Man used to "Southern Living" meeting a white boy who doesn't look at him like a servant, a problem, or scum.

I can't imagine. The love and hope mingling with fear, sending your son off to college. You want him to do well, but you fear for him, too. Will he be safe? Will he change? Will he fail? Will he do so well he rejects us and moves away? That one is common to parents regardless of race.

I'm going to bet that still happens. The "Be a credit to your Race" feeling and pressure. Far less than in the Fifties. But not everyone is cut out to be a Leader of the People. A famous, successful Black person today might get a bit more freedom to do or not doing a Community Service Sense, but there still exists the "whatever I do it will reflect as much on the Black Community and POC as it does on me as a person." I imagine POC who are celebrities get this a lot. You want to live your life, but there is always the sense of being an example for good or ill for the entire Black Community.

I can sense it, but I don't live it. As a fat woman, I am every kind of a failure. There is literally nothing I could do that would either improve or be more ruinous to myself or other fat people. Well, maybe child molestation would knock my social standing down a bit. Fat people in America, more so in the white community, live on hold from humanity. Only when we are thin will we be given the right to succeed or fail as individuals. As is, I'm just a non-person.

Alright, now I want to know what the Hell the guy was singing?

"Snatched away from it," is right. White Enslavers did a tremendous job of Erasing Africa from those Africans they stole and forced to work for them for nothing. Regardless of original identity these Black People were now a homogonous group; Slaves and they were immediately and concertedly removed from all they had been. Slavers said you are Not a People; You Are Property. Property doesn't Have Culture, Language, Feelings, Rights. The Slavers shut out the words and music, the culture and religion, the foods and clothing of every individual trapped and transported to foreign shores. With an iron fist, from then on, whites insisted that the Only Culture open to The Enslaved Person was Slave Culture. Hard Work, cast down eyes, subservience, expecting little or nothing, all reinforced with threats, beatings, brandings, rapes and killings.

I think Jim Crow, Segregation and the explosion of Murders in the South were a cultural reaction of white people not being able to use and abuse Black People the way they used to. Must have been galling for them to have to even think of Their former slaves as human beings. Well, no, they probably didn't think of them as human, but they resented not being able to get away with violence and cruelty that their ancestors had enjoyed as they employed it against Blacks just decades earlier.

You know what would really be a thing? For a Black Person to just Be a Black Person, not a sypher, not a stand-in, not a meme, not a human shorthand, not a representation of an entire population of people. Just themselves. When that day comes to pass, Racism in America will have finally been eradicated. There will still be bullies and bigots here and there, but it won't be systematic, commonplace, nationwide, kneejerk and status quo looming over the heads of the citizenry.

Truely with music and Culture. No Black Americans and Negro Spirituals, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll and possibly even RAP do not exist. Not sure about RAP, if there are African representations of spoken rhyme and beat box type rhythms.

"Compensation for Slave Owners." What a load of tosh. They Don't NEED to Be COMPENSTAED! They Got Literally Decades Of Free Labor To Build their homes, farms, plantations, businesses, properties and holdings. They filed their bank accounts on the abuse, transportation, work, rape-breeding and semi-starvation of an entire work force held In Bondage for Centuries!

They Didn't and Don't Deserve To Be COMPENSATED FOR A GOD DAMN THING!

We don't do Reparations even where we can Find Specific Descendants to pay Generational Restitution to, but they were Covered For Their Loses at The Time and Their Descendants, (people and businesses) continue To Prosper and Thrive. Yes, nice when you have that leg up of money coming in from working, regarding and treating (housing) human beings like animals. That's some "Great America."

On the issue of Lee's Ownership of Enslaved people.

Not doing "God's White Robes" any more than I do "Holy Crowns." Human imaginings of things beyond our competency to comprehend if "God" exists at all. Thrones, crowns, robes are all mighty Earth bound and literary.

Black is also profound, expansive, strong, sleek, immense, powerful. White gets dirty easily. It isn't holy, it is just a lack of color and tone. Dude, they are just colors our eyes pick up on because there is light. We don't even all see the same colors. Rods and cones. It's how the eye works. We attribute moods and morals t our perceptions of colors. Pagan hints in early Abrahamic religions. Different colors represent different things in other cultures. Like symbols. They mean what they mean because of the meaning we give them.

"There's some white blood in there..." Pahaa, yes. This is long ago in technology time. I think we will find as DNA Testing spreads and advances just how Blended we are as a People. Sure, there are people whose ancestry is only one thing or in one area, but most Americans can probably find their DNA comes from many locations and cultures. In the case of African Americans, those who can trace their ancestry through Slavery, there is overwhelming proof that they "add-mixture" with whiter people somewhere along the route. Women kidnapped and transported were often raped en-journey, arriving pregnant. They then experienced holding pens and more men with whips and guns. Tell me none of them were raped. Some young women were purchased for the sexual use and abuse of their purchasers. Then there were Rapped by the Master. Raped by the Master's Sons, Raped by the Master's Cousins... And here and there some actual love-type relationships happened.

I'm thinking, people in the Fifties were so not ready to handle the Sex Abuse side of Slavery. Hell, there are people who don't believe it now.

You know, I think, MLK Jr. had to come first. Civil Rights would have hit an iron rampart if it led with Malcolm X and The Muslim Brotherhood. White people needed to feel safe and be placated by a kindly, Christian MLK before they could handle any real change in the culture.

Hmn, COPS. Have a Southern friend who says our modern police force came about from the Southern Slave Patrols. If true, it certainly makes sense. Police culture at the outset being antithetical to POC certainly feels accurate.

Another Excellent Post, Mr. Spivey. Sorry I write too much. I'm engaged. These issues are important.
